I experienced something new recently, and it was fascinating. I have always loved water. I am literally in my pool at least twice a day. Then I met an aquaphile.
To be clear, I said aquaphile. When I first heard the word, my brain caught the ending before it processed the beginning, and it briefly went somewhere deeply alarming. Thankfully, the word is quite innocent when you take it apart. Aqua means water, and phile means someone who loves or is strongly attracted to something. An aquaphile is simply someone with a particular love of water. Much better.
Until that moment, I did not even know there was a word for someone who finds water especially sensual. I thought I simply loved being in my pool. It had never occurred to me that, for some people, the water itself could be an essential part of the pleasure.
The experience was surprisingly simple, yet it completely reframed the way I saw the water. For the first time, I truly met the water skin to skin. The rest of the world was safely out of sight and mind, and I exhaled. As I floated weightlessly in this delicious, bare sanctuary, I experienced the water from an entirely different perspective. It was not merely the setting. It was the main attraction.
It was naughty, indulgent, and freeing all at once. The water buoyed me up, and the worries of the world drifted away. It was uncomplicated. I found myself frolicking in the water. It was sweet, mischievous, and purely carnal, with each feeling somehow embracing the others. There was something wonderfully playful about being completely naked outside while the rest of the world carried on with its perfectly ordinary afternoon. It felt like getting away with something.
I expected it to feel more overtly sexual. Instead, it felt genuine. It felt less like being naked and more like simply being human. Nudity does not always have to feel provocative or serious. Sometimes it can be innocent and intimate at the same time. Sometimes the sexiest experiences are the ones that also make you laugh.
Nothing about my pool had changed, yet for one sunlit afternoon, it felt like an entirely different world. Maybe a little magic appears whenever someone invites us to see the familiar with new eyes. It leaves me curious about what other secrets might be hiding within the familiar, waiting for the perfect moment to pull me in.
